Kandy Lake
Kandy Lake
Also known as Kiri Muhuda (the Sea of Milk), is a beautiful man-made lake located in the heart of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It was built in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, the last ruler of the Kandyan Kingdom.
The lake surrounds the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) and adds to the city’s historic and spiritual atmosphere.
Covering about 19 hectares, Kandy Lake is not only an important landmark but also a peaceful retreat for both locals and visitors. Its calm waters, tree-lined paths, and views of surrounding hills make it a popular spot for walking, sightseeing, and photography.
Today, Kandy Lake stands as a symbol of the city’s royal heritage and natural beauty, enhancing Kandy’s status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
